Grants

The charity is mainly funded by donations and bequests from individuals and businesses. Grants are normally limited to £500 per application. The charity holds a Grant Register and written risk assessment to satisfy its donors.

Newfoundland Breed Clubs

The charity welcomes the opportunity to support the Newfoundland breed clubs in the welfare of Newfoundland dogs. Welfare officers from the UK breed clubs can approach the NCT to discuss a particular dog or trends; The NCT believes the breed clubs are at the heart of the welfare system for Newfoundland dogs. Unlike the Dogs Trust or RSPCA the NCT will wherever possible work in partnership with breed clubs.

While the general public can make a direct application to assist their Newfoundland in need (helping to care for and place Newfoundlands who were unable to stay in their initial home) the NCT vision is to enable a small network of NCT fosterers and adopters (who go through a robust selection process) with Charity to work alongside the KC Newfoundland breed club welfare officers in a supporting role where possible.

All Newfoundland owners are required to make a formal NCT application for funding. It is vital to be clear about, and make sure the recipient of any grant understands and agrees what the grant can and can't be used for.

Allocation of funds

The NCT anticipate no more than 20% of its annual income is spent on welfare; the charity focus will be sharply focussed on prevention - looking at the pathway journey from puppyhood to adult to veteran and how best to educate the general public to prevent requested interventions along that journey.
